Nature watch 1

Filed under: Nature watch — Jocko @ 11:32 am

Well, I saw my first Bambi (fawn, for those of you who don’t watch cartoons) yesterday with its little white spots all over being nursed by its mother.

A week earlier our neighbour brought to our door a fuzz ball baby mallard duck found in the middle of the road. She wondered if she could let it go in our pond and hopefully save its life. Haven’t seen it recently.

Swallows were trying to move into our pendulous birdhouse outside the kitchen window. I guess they don’t like the swinging as they have moved on.

Mason or orchard bees have been busy for some time now. If you have fruit trees you might consider building a mason bee house to improve your fruit yield. It’s easy, just drill 1/4 in. (approx.) holes 3-5″ deep into a block of wood and hang it in a sunny spot. Google mason bee house for more exact advice. But you’d better hurry. They are nesting now!
