These guys were found on a true fir (Abies amabilis) in our backyard today. I don’t know what kind of tent caterpillar they are, as there are several species. Usually they are found on deciduous trees such as alder and apple. And it seems a little early for them to be this size. Could they have overwintered in the caterpillar stage because of our mild winter? Let’s hope the kind that run amok on the alder trees aren’t bad this year!
