Power Off…

When:  Wednesday, July 9, 2008 from 8 to 12.

Area:  Schooner Way and area; Privateers Road; Pirates Road; Capstan Lane; Plumper Way; and Trincoma Place, including side roads.

“To ensure continued good electric service, we are proceeding with line and distribution system improvements.  However, for safety reasons, it will be necessary to interrupt your power supply.  Following the interruption, if you experience any electrical problems, or require further information, please call 1-888-769-3766” – BC Hydro

  1. It seems we have more power failures on Pender than most places (in the civilized world anyway). Here are some tips:
    1) The number to call for info on the latest outage: 1.888.POWER ON
    2) A non-electric phone will enable you to receive calls on your land line.
    3) A battery back-up device for your computer will enable you to shut down without losing data.
    4) A generator (placed so it does not disturb neighbours) can save food in your fridge or let you watch TV. Don’t attach one to the whole-house wiring without professional help or disaster may ensue!
    5) Having satellite TV/Internet vs. local services means that you can still use these services (if you have a generator) when the local service is down.
    6) Realize that if there is a major earthquake, power will likely be out for a long time. Being earthquake-ready will ensure that you are also prepared for lesser power failures.
