Media Watch

Filed under: Commentary — Jocko @ 2:27 pm

I was browsing through the House Dressing Company in Sidney the other day and happened to pick up the complementary magazine Boulevard, Sept/Oct edition .  This magazine is about the arts, people, food and homes and is well worth a read.

A couple of items caught my eye – an article about the sculptures to be found in Salt Spring Island’s green spaces on p.88 (hey, now there’s an idea for Pender) and something writer Sylvia Weinstock picked up on on page 100 – Thought for Food: Low Carbon Diet Calculator.

Apparently the Christmas issue will be a big one, so watch for it in the weeks to come!

Contra Dance

Filed under: Recreation, Health and Fitness — Jocko @ 12:20 pm

Dance to the music of Rig a Jig with caller Doug Patterson.

Contra Dancing is a form of American folk dance in which the dancers form a set of two parallel lines which run the length of the hall. Each dance consists of a sequence of moves that ends with couples having progressed one position up or down the set. As the sequence is repeated, a couple will eventually dance with every other couple in the set. Contra Dancing was all the rage in 1800.

Partner not required and all ages welcome.

Where:  Pender Island Community Hall

When:  Saturday September 20, 7:30 p.m.
