The House that Wally Built

Keynote Speaker: Wally Foster

The Pender Island Recycling Society is pleased to announce that Pender’s own Wally Foster will be the keynote speaker at this year’s AGM.  Three years ago, Wally entertained and informed with his presentation on composting toilets.  Now Wally has the whole remarkable house to tell us about.  Recycled materials, innovative design, solar panels, efficient in-floor heating, state-of-the-art technology, cordwood building system . . . add the ingenuity and determination of Wally and Patty Foster and you have a house worth hearing about.

I notice that there has been a large auto transporter anchored in Plumper Sound for over a week now. My guess is that it is unable to proceed on to Annacis Island terminal to unload it’s cargo, probably because the yards there and at all the points across the country are plugged up with unsold inventory.
Does anyone have any other ideas?  The ship’s name may give a clue to the maker. I’m too far away to see.
Should be some terrific deals available on Japanese and Korean imports if you have the cash!
I remember the same thing happening in the recession of 1981/ 82 when I worked in that field.
It will be interesting to see how long it sits there.

 pub1.jpg Port Browning Marina Pub

Georgina is bidding farewell to Islanders Restaurant.  In her words, “It’s been a slice, but due to other opportunites, I have decided to close February 15, 2009.

However, that doesn’t mean you don’t get to taste my cooking anymore.  I’m taking over the kitchen at Port Browning Marina Resort!

Port Browning is going through some exciting changes and renovations.  I’m excited to be a part of it.  We’ll still be offering the old Browning favourites, and I am bringing some new ideas with me.

Starting March 15, 2009, please join us at the pub or cafe.  We want to make it a destination for the best gastro pub throughout the Gulf Islands.  Thanks for all of your support over the years…  Georgina”
