Filed under: Governance and Legal — Jocko @ 2:18 pm

From the Islands Trust:

The Islands Trust Council will hold its next quarterly business meeting June 17-19, 2009 at the Pender Islands Community Hall on North Pender Island.  The public meeting starts Wednesday, June 17 at 1:00 p.m. and finishes by 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 19.

Trust Council invites members of the public to participate in a town hall session, a regular forum to promote informal dialogue between islanders and trustees, starting at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 18.  Persons or organizations wishing to reserve time to make a formal presentation to the Islands Trust Council at the beginning of the town hall session must receive an appointment through the Executive Committee.  Please forward your request to the Corporate Secretary, including the subject, name and address of the speaker, to the Islands Trust’s Victoria office.  Guidelines to help those planning a presentation to Council are available on the Islands Trust website at

http://www.islandstrust.bc.ca/tc/addresstips.cfm.

Trust Council Sessions will include:

Wednesday, June 17

Land Use Planning Session – Trustees will receive a presentation on community land use planning, followed by a review of work programs and priorities with trustees and staff from the Northern, Southern and Salt Spring planning teams.

Thursday, June 18

Strategic Planning Session – Trustees will take a further step towards creation of Trust Council’s strategic plan for the current term, by discussing priorities and the various strategies and actions that will enable them to reach their objectives.

Riparian Area Regulations – An update will be provided with respect to a joint effort of the Islands Trust and the Ministry of Environment to fulfill the requirements of the Riparian Area Regulation within the Islands Trust Area.

Delegations and Town Hall Session – Trust Council encourages members of the public to participate in dialogue between islanders and the trustees.  The public is invited to discuss issues, ask questions and make suggestions about the work of the Islands Trust.

BC Farm Industry Review Board – Representatives from the Farm Industry Review Board will provide trustees with an introduction to the role of the Board.

San Juan County Council Liaison – Trustees will meet with the San Juan County Council to discuss common issues and interests. Amy Windrope, Project Manager of the San Juan Initiative, will give a presentation about this partnership of local, state, federal and tribal representatives who are working together to protect natural areas.

Information and Decision Items – Trust Council will consider a variety of routine business updates and decisions and will review recommendations from each Council Committee regarding its proposed work program for the coming quarter.  Highlights include a decision about the recipients of Council’s annual Community Stewardship Awards and consideration of a new approach to bylaw enforcement.

On Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning, the Trust Council meeting will be closed to the public under Section 90 of the Community Charter.  The closed meeting portions will include a session with the Chief Administrative Officer, an update on current litigation, a legal session and a report from the Trust Fund Board’s Long Term Funding Committee.
