Coming to Pender on Friday October 17th at 8:00 pm at the Pender Island Community Hall will be ALPHA YAYA DIALLO & Guest DOURA BARRY

Guitarist and singer Alpha Yaya Diallo, from Guinea in West Africa, is one of the hottest acts on the current world music scene and one of the most inspired and inspirational artists on today’s World Beat circuit.  Three time Juno Award winner, described as ‘the greatest African artist ever introduced to America’, Alpha Yaya Diallo and his band and guest Doura Barry will get you dancing on the Penders.

A Thanksgiving weekend Jewelery and Miniature Art Show and Sale will be held at the Morning Bay Winery, 6621 Harbour Hill Drive, from October 10 to 12.

Show hours: Opening Reception Friday night Oct. 10 from 6 to 8:30 pm;  Sat. Oct. 11 and Sun. Oct. 12 from 10 am to 5 pm.

Musically speaking…

St. Petersburg String Quartet

The 2008/2009 Gulf Islands Concert Series (Pender) gets underway on Thursday, October 23, 2008 with internationally renowned soprano Suzie LeBlanc (visit here for more information), followed by the St. Petersburg Quartet (visit here for more information) on November 4, 2008; Patricia O’Callaghan on March 11; and Michael Kaeshammer on April 16.

Concerts are in the Pender Island school auditorium at 7:30 p.m. unless otherwise noted.  Some events may be sold out.  Forms for subscription are typically available at Casual Pender, SOUTHRIDGE FARMS COUNTRY STORE, and Talisman Books & Gallery (better hurry!).  Artists, dates, and programs are subject to change.  The series is a bargain at $60 adults, $120 for a family, $60 single parent family, or $12 student.  The single ticket at the door admission price is $25.
