Free online community classifieds launched…

A highly successful model for classified ads using a voluntary email subscriber list has been popular on Salt Spring Island since last February.  Users find they get quick responses to services, items posted for sale, available for free, or requests to find that sought after blender, lawnmower or record player.  And subscribers have found it to be a lot of fun.  Over 1500 people are now signed up and the numbers keep growing.  Everyday, new things crop up and efficient transactions made.

Because of the big success of the Salt Spring group, we have started a similar free, voluntarily moderated service for us Pender Islanders.  It may take a little while to get going, but as more people catch on and join the email group, then who knows!

Share the PIE!

Simply join the PIE (Pender Islands Email) free classifieds and messaging group by emailing alphapest@shaw.ca to join, then send your messages to the entire group (now over 60 members) using pender-island@googlegroups.com as the ‘send to’ email address.  You can then send out whatever you want as long as it’s of relevance to the Pender community.  As a member, you could also just sit back and see what others have to offer or need.  Group members may unsubscribe at any time.

Changes at Browning update…

 pub1.jpg Port Browning Marina Pub

Georgina is bidding farewell to Islanders Restaurant.  In her words, “It’s been a slice, but due to other opportunites, I have decided to close February 15, 2009.

However, that doesn’t mean you don’t get to taste my cooking anymore.  I’m taking over the kitchen at Port Browning Marina Resort!

Port Browning is going through some exciting changes and renovations.  I’m excited to be a part of it.  We’ll still be offering the old Browning favourites, and I am bringing some new ideas with me.

Starting March 15, 2009, please join us at the pub or cafe.  We want to make it a destination for the best gastro pub throughout the Gulf Islands.  Thanks for all of your support over the years…  Georgina”

The lighting of the tree…

Filed under: Services — Jocko @ 6:51 pm

The annual lighting of the Edith and George Pearson Care Tree will take place, rain or shine, at 4pm on Sunday, December 7, 2008 at the Care Tree on Bridges Rd. for dedication and carol singing.  Music to be provided by the Pender Highlanders Pipe Band.  The money raised will go to the Pender Island Lion’s Club’s support for Care Canada.  It would be a good idea to bring a flashlight along with you.

AN INVITATION TO MEMBERS AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC

Chamber Benefits Awareness Afternoon

Please join the Chamber at our ‘Benefits Awareness’ afternoon at the Anglican Parish Hall, Saturday, Nov 8th from 1:30 – 4:30 pm.
This information session is open to members as well the public. Our guest speaker is Doug Wedman, agent for the Chambers Group Insurance Plan for small business. He will provide details on dental, health, life insurance and disability insurance available to owners and employees of small businesses.

Whether you’re a solo entrepreneur, home-based business or part of a larger firm, benefits are a very important part of your financial security. The Chambers Plan lays a solid foundation for that security, based on a benefit program designed specifically for you and your company.

We will also provide an overview of other benefits Chamber membership offers and demonstrate how members can access this information on the Chamber web site.

There will be a Wine and Cheese social following the presentation.  Bring a friend, member or non-member.  We hope to see you there!
